The Beach Rest Area would be the first location to showcase a voluntary pollinator planting as part of the North Dakota Game and Fish Department (NDGF) North Dakota Monarch Butterfly and Native Pollinator Strategy. The objective is to plant and develop a pollinator garden in the front lawn of the Beach Rest Area that contains native grasses and forbs that provide larval and nectar source habitat for insects as well as forage and nesting habitat for migratory birds (essentially habitat i.e. food and shelter). All the while being visually appealing to tourists, local residents, and promote pollinator awareness and education to the public.
